Preservation at the Danish Windmill is not only a matter of saving an old building. The mill was built to work, and keeping it understandable means keeping its parts, motion, and specialized knowledge alive.
In Fall 2023, The Breeze reported on a major preservation moment: a millwright visit from Denmark and renewed attention to the Windmill’s grindstones, gearbox, fantail, and working condition. The issue made clear that operating the mill is part of preserving it. The more the mechanism can be inspected, adjusted, and understood by people with the right skills, the stronger the Windmill’s future becomes.
