The Danish Villages have always depended on memorable reasons to stop, walk around, and stay awhile. The Windmill is the anchor, but new attractions help the whole destination keep moving. In 2026, the Thomas Dambo troll project became one of those new chapters.
The April 2026 Daily Grind noted that construction on Elk Horn's troll was expected to begin in April, with a public presentation by Thomas Dambo at EEHK High School. The project connected public art, Danish imagination, community participation, and destination development in a way that fit naturally beside the Windmill's existing visitor appeal.
That same issue also pointed to broader momentum in town, including Pauley Jones' plans for Kulturhus and Kaffehus in the Grace on Main building. Together, these efforts suggest a larger pattern: Elk Horn is continuing to build places where visitors can gather, learn, eat, shop, and connect.
For the Windmill, that matters. A stronger Danish Villages visitor experience helps more people discover the mill, and the mill gives those visitors a historic center of gravity. Public art, local food, Main Street activity, and Danish heritage do not compete with one another. They make the destination more complete.
