Back on the Grind: Preparing the Windmill for New Millstones

Inside the mill, historic craftsmanship reveals how this remarkable structure works.

The Back on the Grind campaign gave the Windmill’s preservation needs a clear public shape. The work was not abstract. It involved the physical systems that let the mill turn, operate safely, and eventually grind again: the cap frame, windshaft, millstones, brake cable, grease bank, sack hoist, and related mechanical details.

The Summer 2024 issue of The Breeze described the campaign as a push toward full functionality and working condition. Later Daily Grind issues continued to track the progress, including replacement millstones and related preservation planning.
